First launch

The first time you run SAFER X REDACT on a machine the operating system shows a one-time security warning because the build is not yet code-signed. This is expected and does not recur on that machine.

Windows

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC.” Click More info, then Run anyway. The app launches normally and the warning will not appear again for this app on this machine.

macOS

Gatekeeper may say the app is “from an unidentified developer.” Right-click (or Control-click) the app icon, choose Open, then Open again in the dialog. One-time per machine.

Why this happens

Code signing certificates have an annual cost; this release ships unsigned and documents the ceremony. A signed build is on the roadmap; existing buyers re-download at no cost when it lands. An unsigned app is not less safe — the OS simply cannot verify the publisher without a signature, so it asks for one human confirmation.

The wizard

After dismissing the warning, the first-run wizard opens. Enter your name (it becomes the licensee on your local audit log), point it at your license.key, and finish. If you do not yet have a purchased key, the wizard can generate a local trial key so you can evaluate detection first; replace it with your purchased key any time by dropping the file in the app-data folder.

If the tray icon never appears

Check %LOCALAPPDATA%\SAFER X REDACT\logs\tray.log. The usual causes are an antivirus quarantine (add an exclusion) or a corrupted download (re-download from your confirmation page). See Troubleshooting.
