Install & run

SAFER X REDACT ships as a portable folder. No installer, no admin rights, no Python on the machine.

1. Download & extract

  1. From your confirmation page, download the app zip and your license.key.
  2. Extract the zip anywhere you can write — Desktop, Documents, a network share.
  3. Open the extracted SAFER-X-REDACT-win64 folder.

2. Run it

Double-click safer-x-redact.exe. On a brand-new machine Windows SmartScreen may warn that the app is unrecognised (it is not yet code-signed). Click More info → Run anyway; this is a one-time ceremony per machine. See First launch for the full walkthrough.

3. First-run wizard

A one-time window asks for your name and your licence:

  • Enter the same name your licence was issued to.
  • Click Browse… and select your license.key file.
  • Click Finish Setup.

The window closes and a navy shield icon appears in your system tray (bottom-right). A green dot means the local engine is running.

4. Where things live

Running from source (advanced)

If you licensed the source build, from the project root with a supported Python (3.10–3.12):

python -m safer_app
